Microscale Decal Finishing Products. |
|
|
Micro Set |
Micro Set is a very versatile decal setting solution that does
several things to the Microscale Decals to improve application.
Micro Set should be applied to the surface of the model where you
will be sliding off the decal. Micro Set prepares the surface with
special wetting agents that cuts the oils in new paint and converts
the adhesive on the back of the decal to a stronger and more lasting
one. And finally, Micro Set slightly softens the decals film to make
it more flexible so that it can conform better to the model's
surface. Better adhesion by the decal to the model prevents tiny air
bells from occurring and results in an invisible carrier film or the
so called 'painted on look'.

Micro Sol |
Micro Sol setting solution is for the most difficult irregular
surfaces you find on models. It completely softens the Microscale
Decal allowing it to drape down onto the surface of the model
conforming perfectly and without distortion. You can get the most
amazing results in seemingly impossible places, because Micro Sol
actually makes the decal part of the paint. For that reason you
should coat Micro Sol on for only a few seconds and then leave it
alone, it does the work. Do not touch until dry as the decal is very
soft at this stage and could be easily damaged.

Micro Coat. "Gloss",
"Satin" or "Flat/Matt" Finish.
|
Gloss,
Satin & Flat Varnishes
The Micro Coat
finishes are more than just a pretty look. This is one tough
finish, and a real breakthrough in a modern formulation of water
reducible acrylic resin. For models that get a lot of handling
this is the answer. Even the Micro Coat Flat and Micro Coat Satin
continue to look like new after a great deal of handling. One of
the main reasons for the Micro Coat finishes is that they are the
ideal way to be sure that your Microscale Decals perform up to
their potential for realism. Micro Coat Clear gives you a 'wet
look' shine that replicates the new synthetic paint used on the
real thing. It is also the answer for a glossy base necessary for
decaling. All the Micro Coat Finishes use the same water clear
acrylic resin, which is tough and flexible and adheres strongly to
paint and plastic. It is rated to last at least twenty years under
ordinary conditions, for models this should be forever.

Micro Krystal Klear |
If there was ever a modellers secret, this is it. Micro Krystal
Klear can do so many things, you will not believe that any product
can make such a big difference in the appearance of your models.
First, Micro Krystal Klear is a liquid that can be used to form very
real looking small windows up to about 1/4" in size. It is also an
adhesive for mounting clear plastic parts, windows, etc. on your
models. it can be used to make lens both clear and coloured with the
addition of a little food colouring. What really makes a remarkable
difference in your models is the simple fact that the clear parts
can be joined to the painted parts with a completely clear adhesive.
What this means is that you do not have to mask around the clear
parts, something that is rarely completely successful anyway. And
the sills which are painted can be seen through the clear Micro
Krystal Klear for the most realistic looking windows you will see on
a model. And what the pros like best, it is fast and easy and it
stays clear. It cleans-up with water while wet, and is waterproof
when dry. You can tell when it is dry because it turns from milky
white to clear. And if that were not enough, if you need a super
strong and flexible adhesive for wood, plastic, paper or most
combinations of dissimilar materials this is a handy thing to have.
It's great

Notes on Applying Water Slide Decals
- Surface to be decaled must be painted and
have a gloss finish.
- Work only on one side of the model at a
time. Allow at least 3 hours before decaling the
other side.
- Cut each decal from the sheet only as
needed, holding the decal with tweezers, dip the
decal into water for a few seconds, do not let
the decal float off the backing sheet.
- Position the decal in to a position adjacent
to the area to be decaled and slide the decal
into position with a soft Brush. A little
deposit may appear when sliding the decal off
the backing sheet. This will wash away with a
little water.
- When the decal is in the desired position,
use a soft cloth to dry the decal into position.
If the decal position needs to be adjusted,
apply a little water, then reposition using the
soft Brush.
- Once all the decaling is complete on one
side of a car, apply Microscale Micro Set (Blue
Label) to each decal. This will assist the decal
to conform to the model surface.
- If after 24 hours the decal has not
conformed to any Irregular feature on the model,
apply Microscale Micro Sol (Red Label) to the
desired area.
- Allow the model to dry for 24 hours. Using a
soft Brush, wash the decal with water, this will
remove any deposits & dried decal solution.
- Allow the model to dry for at least 48
hours, then apply a coat of suitable varnish or
weathering paint to achieve the desired finish.

Hints on Applying Locomotive Lining.
-
When starting to line a panel, start with
the bottom left corner, and apply a corner with
two long lengths of lines, one running most of
the length along the bottom of the side
(finishing approx. 15mm from the panel edge),
and the other running up most of the height of
the side (again finishing 15mm from the panel
edge). Align these lengths of lining with their
respective edges. Repeat this with the upper
right hand corner. Dry the decals and apply
Micro Set.
-
Allow this area of the model to dry for 24
hours.
-
Now cut from the decal sheet a corner with
two 20mm lengths of lining and place this dry
into position in the top left and bottom right
of the panel. Check the fit and trim the lining
to fit the remaining space, ensuring a slight
over lap. Now wet the decal and apply as before,
overlapping the lining to form a continuous line.
