Freight Car Koki 104 2-Car Set loaded with Containers 18D
The Series Koki Container Carrier cars #100 and over all share
several common features. They are all lower in floor height (100mm
lower) than their predecessor Series Koki 5000 or over. The loadable
weight is increased to 40.5 metric tons to carry ISO standard ocean
fright containers, for which demand is on the rise. Also, to comply
with high-speed train transport, these cars are designed to operate
at the maximum speed of 110 km/hour.
About 3,000 cars Koki
104 were manufactured until its successor Koki 106 was produced,
making Koki 104 one of the most popular container carriers in the JR
Freight fleet. It still makes up the core of container transport in
Japan today.
