0730 0090 Illinois Central, Road Number #31920
This 40' standard box car with single Superior door, tall ladders and no roofwalk is painted freight car red with white logo and lettering. It was built in October 1948, serviced in November 1967, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. This car, one of a group of 1500 XM box cars, uses a six-foot Superior door and was repainted into IC’s brand new ‘split rail’ "Mainline of Mid-America" scheme in November 1967.

0200 0150 Port Huron & Detroit, Road Number #1309
This 40' standard box car with single Superior door is painted blue with white stencilling, white and red "PHD" herald, and white "St. Clair Blue Water Route" lettering. It runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Originally built in October 1947, this box car was rebuilt by the U.S. Railway Equipment Company in February 1966.

Micro-Trains 0200 0776 Denver & Rio Grande Western®. Road Number AX-69035.
This 40’ standard box car with single door is painted aluminium with black logo and lettering. It was built in April 1941 and serviced in January 1969. It runs on Bettendorf trucks. It is now in company service, assigned as a tool car for the SB-1 side-boom Cat outfit. Last serviced in January 1969, it was stationed at Minturn, Colorado, for years in MOW service. It was spotted in 1975 in silver MOW paint.

This 40' standard box car with single Superior door is painted box car red with white lettering and logo. It was built in October 1957 by Pullman Standard and serviced in September 1968. It runs on black Bettendorf trucks. B&O had two groups of cars built for its "Time Saver Service." The first group was a 600 car fleet (series 470000-470599) built by ACF and classed M-66. This car represents the second group B&O of 400 cars built by Pullman Standard. The Time Saver Service is how B&O promoted their high speed scheduled LCL (less than car load) freight service.

This 50’ standard box car with Youngstown door wears two of the experimental paint schemes, each side with color blocks of unique dimensions. This car, third of six in the ‘Cameo Car Series,’ was built in May 1956 by Pullman Standard and runs on roller bearing trucks. All of the Cameo Series car designs feature varying widths of yellow striping along with monograms and the recently adopted “Futura Demi-Bold” font.

This 50’ standard box car with single Superior door and no roof walk is painted orange with large black logo and lettering, and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Illinois Central Gulf railroad was formed by the merger of the Illinois Central Railroad Company and the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad Company in 1972. After merging, the railroad operated in 13 states. Today, the IC ships freight and operates passenger trains for Amtrak. It was a subsidiary of IC Industries, Inc. (later Whitman Corp.), a holding company formed in 1962. The railroad was privatized in 1989 and merged with Canadian National Railway Company (CN) in 1999.

The shape used here is a diagonal ‘chevron’ shape across each side, adorned with the Chessie kitten. Lettering is in yellow and blue. This car, second of six in the ‘Cameo Car Series,’ was built in May 1956 by Pullman Standard and serviced in May 1956. It runs on roller bearing trucks. All of the Cameo Series car designs feature varying widths of yellow striping along with monograms and the recently adopted “Futura Demi-Bold” font. This 50’ standard box car with Youngstown door is painted dark green with a horizontal white stripe across the sides and doors. The car displays the Monad logo, “Scenic Route of the Vista Dome” lettering, the arched “Northern Pacific
lettering and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Originally, these 50’ single door cars built by NP in October 1950 were part of series 31000-31499. Some from this group were converted into “DF” service by the Northern Pacific at Brainerd in 1954-1956 and painted into NP’s dark green with the “DF” medallion on the door advertising the accommodations for their shippers. They were re numbered into the 1100-1295 series.

This 50’ standard box car with plug door is painted black with a yellow logo and lettering. Built in 1972, it runs on black roller bearing trucks. The Seaboard Air Line merged with the Atlantic Coast Line on July 1, 1967, to form The Seaboard Coast Line. About 1974, SCL began advertising itself as “The Family Lines.” The title was a marketing device, not a corporate name. The names in this family: SCL, Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, Georgia Railroad, and the West Point Route. The SCL continued to operate trains of its predecessors. On November 1, 1980, SCL and Chessie System were merged into the CSX Corporation. On December 29, 1982, Louisville & Nashville was merged into SCL to form the Seaboard System Railroad.

This 50' standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk has yellow sides, black ends and an aluminum roof. It bears blue and white lettering and runs on black Barber® roller bearing trucks. Napierville Junction Railway was the corporate arm of the Delaware & Hudson Railway in Canada. It operated some 28 miles of line between the U.S. border at Rouses Point, N.Y. and a junction with the CP and CN at St. Constant, Quebec, 20 miles southwest of Montreal. Canadian Pacific absorbed the NJ reporting mark into their listings by 1992 when it purchased D&H.

This 50' rib side box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted Big Sky Blue with the white Rocky logo and lettering. It was built in October 1968 by Pacific Car & Foundry in Renton, WA, and runs on Barber® roller bearing trucks. This car was equipped with Car Pac loaders (belt restraints) and a Hydra-Cushion underframe.

0380 0460 Canadian National. Road Number 401527.
This 50' standard box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted mineral red with one side wearing a white banner, framed in red, with graphics for 18 Canadian newspapers. Lettering is in both black and white. Trucks are Bettendorf. This car was built in 1966 by National Steel Car and serviced in September 1970 when it received its specialized graphics. This car, one of four uniquely decorated, operated as such for a short while to raise awareness of CN's freight transportation role for each item displayed on the car side. For this car it was its role in the transportation of newsprint.

0250 0690 Cadiz Railroad. Road Number #1094.
This 50' rib side box car with single door and no roofwalk is painted yellow with blue ends. The sides display blue logos and lettering with white lettering on the ends. It was built by FMC in Portland, OR, in January 1977 and runs on roller bearing trucks. The Cadiz Railroad was built around the turn of the 20th century for the purpose of transporting tobacco to Gracey, KY. According to legend, when the railroad was organized in 1901, a company needed to have at least 10 miles of track. So, founder William Cleland built about two extra miles of curves into the line to ensure Cadiz would have its own rail line.

This 50' rib side box car with plug door and no roofwalk is painted box car red with white Burlington Northern circle cross and lettering. It was built in March 1975 and runs on roller bearing trucks. This car is one of over 400 cars in its series. Paint schemes varied somewhat within the series, suggesting the series may have been comprised of many similar cars not necessarily built at the same time or part of the same build order.
