10-914-2 TGV POS (Paris-Strasburg-Stuttgart). 10 Car Set With NEM DCC Interface Fitted Which Allows For The Easy Instillation Of a 6 Pin NEM 651 Decoder (Lenz Silver & Gold Etc). 275.99
Prototype Information —
The TGV POS is a French TGV train currently under testing for use on the LGV Est. POS stands for Paris-Ostfrankreich-Süddeutschland (German for Paris, Eastern France, Southern Germany).

Each train will be formed of eight existing TGV Réseau single-deck carriages paired with new power cars with a total power output of 9.6 MW (12,900 hp) and a top speed of 320 km/h (200 mph) under 25 kV. The TGV Réseau power cars thus freed will be matched with new TGV Duplex carriages to create TGV Duplex - TGV Réseau hybrid sets. This is because traffic on the LGV Est is expected to be less than on the heavily congested LGV Sud-Est and LGV Nord.

Unlike the TGV Atlantique (but like the Class 373 Eurostar) the TGV Réseau and the TGV Duplex have asynchronous motors and, in case of failure, isolation of an individual motor in a powered bogie is possible. By using IGBT power packs, the new power cars are capable of developing 75% of their full rated power under 15 kV German electrification, compared to 45% for existing TGV power cars. This will allow POS trains to operate at the same speed as InterCityExpress trains in Germany.

Each TGV POS train set weighs 423 tonnes (466 short tons; 416 long tons) and is numbered in the 4400 series.

The livery is the same as that of TGV-Réseau sets (silver and blue). Pre-production set No 4401 had a prototype livery similar To the one used on the TGV Duplex sets, but in March 2007 the blue areas were stickered over with silver and is now in appearance the same as the other sets.

World rail speed record;
TGV POS trainset number 4402 set a new world speed record (for travel on conventional rails) on April 3, 2007. The train reached 574.8 km/h (357.2 mph) [1] As part of a series of increasingly faster runs that culminated in the official record attempt, it set an unofficial speed record of 554.3 km/h (344.42 mph) on February 13, 2007. The trainset comprised three specially modified Duplex cars, fitted with two powered bogies similar to the AGV prototype, marshalled between the TGV POS power cars. The trainset had four more powered axles than trainset 325 in the 1990 speed record, and had a theoretical maximum power output of 19.6 MW (26,820 hp) instead of the 9.3 MW on a standard TGV. Over 600 sensors were fitted on various parts of both the engines and the cars. The train set ran with larger wheels, and the catenary voltage was increased to 31 kV from the standard 25 kV.[2] [3] The maximum speed was achieved near kilometer post 193 on the LGV Est between Meuse and Champagne-Ardenne TGV stations.

The Eurostar is a train service connecting London and Kent in Britain, with France (primarily Paris and Lille) and Brussels in Belgium. Trains cross the English Channel via the Channel Tunnel. In Southern England, a new railway line has been built to the same high-speed LGV standards used in France. The two-phase Channel Tunnel Rail Link ("CTRL") project has been partially in operation since 2003, reducing times to and from London Waterloo. Eurostar have announced that from opening of the CTRL into London St Pancras on November 14, 2007 it will be branded as High Speed 1.

Since the first revenue-earning Eurostar trains ran in November 1994, Eurostar has established a dominant share of the market on the routes it serves. In November 2004 Eurostar stated that their share of the combined rail/air market share had grown to 68% for London⇔Paris and 63% for London⇔Brussels. The company noted that these passenger figures represented a saving of 393,000 carbon dioxide-producing short-haul flights.

Kato Thalys 10 car Set.

Kato_Thalys.jpg (65212 bytes)

10-910

Thalys (TGV) PBAK (Paris-Brussels-Amsterdam & Koln). 10 Car Set. 247.99
Prototype Information —
Thalys is a high-speed train network built around the high-speed line between Paris and Brussels. This track is shared with Eurostar trains that go from Paris or Brussels to London via Lille and the Channel Tunnel and with French domestic TGV trains. The system uses two models of trains, the PBA and the PBKA, which both belong to the TGV (train à grande vitesse) family of high-speed trains built by Alstom in France, although they are not identical to domestic TGV sets.

Beyond Brussels, the main cities Thalys trains reach are Antwerp, The Hague, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Liège, Aachen and Cologne(Koln). Trains to these destinations run partly on dedicated high-speed tracks (some of which are yet to be built), and partly on older tracks shared with normal-speed trains. Plans to continue the line past Cologne to Frankfurt had to be abandoned because of the power the Thalys trainsets generate when operating under the 15 kV voltage system used in Germany is insufficient for operation on the Cologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line.

Original and 2nd generation Thalys in Paris Travel time from Brussels (Brussels-South) to Paris (Gare du Nord) is normally 1 hour, 22 minutes, for a distance of approximately 300 km. Peak speed is 300 km/h on a dedicated high-speed railway track.

The LGV (ligne à grande vitesse) link with Charles de Gaulle airport allowed Air France to withdraw its air service between Paris and Brussels; instead, Air France books seats on Thalys trains. Thalys has been given the IATA designator 2H. This is used in conjunction with American Airlines and Northwest Airlines. American Airlines has a code sharing agreement with Thalys for rail service from Charles de Gaulle airport to Brussels-South. The airline alliance SkyTeam also has a code sharing agreement with Thalys for rail service from Schiphol Airport Amsterdam to Antwerps Berchem Station and Brussels-South.

Kato AVE 10 car Set.

KATO HOBBYTRAIN LEMKE 10719-1 RENFE TGV AVE 10-part train set in blue & beige 10-719-1 AVE 10 Car Set. (2008 Price Should Be £248.00) 194.99
Prototype Information —
AVE, an acronym for Alta Velocidad Española (Literally, "Spanish High Speed," but also a play on the word ave, meaning "bird" in Spanish), is a high speed train that can achieve speeds of up to 300 km/h (186 mph) on dedicated track.

The AVE commenced service between Madrid and Seville on 21 April 1992, a distance of 471 km (293 miles), with a travel time of 2.5 hours. The service guarantees arrival within 5 minutes of the advertised time, and offers a full refund if the train is delayed further, although only 0.16% of trains have been so. In this regard, the punctuality of the AVE is exceptional compared to other non long distance RENFE services.
  • Currently, eight lines make up the AVE system:
    • AVE Larga Distancia (long distance) Madrid–Seville (Madrid, Ciudad Real, Puertollano, Córdoba, Seville)
AVE Larga Distancia Madrid–Zaragoza–Lleida–Camp de Tarragona (Madrid, Guadalajara, Calatayud, Zaragoza, Lleida, Tarragona)
AVE Larga Distancia Madrid–Zaragoza–Huesca (Madrid, Guadalajara, Calatayud, Zaragoza, Huesca)
AV Media Distancia (Mid distance) Madrid–Puertollano (Madrid, Ciudad Real, Puertollano)
AV Media Distancia (Mid distance) Madrid–Toledo.
AV Media Distancia (Mid distance) Córdoba–Seville.
AV Media Distancia (Mid distance) Córdoba–Antequera.
Talgo 200 Madrid-Málaga (Madrid, Ciudad Real, Puertollano, Córdoba, Puente Genil, Antequera, Málaga)
The central hub of the system is Madrid's Puerta de Atocha station.
