These two-bay ACF covered hoppers with round hatches are
painted light gray with black logo and lettering. It was built in
November 1967 by American Car & Foundry and runs on Barber® Roller
Bearing trucks. One hundred of these hoppers were built for NP,
intended for cement service. The large billboard NORTHERN PACIFIC
herald was in use between 1965 and 1969.

This 40’ steel side reefer with Preco fan is painted box
car red with yellow sides. The heralds are red, white and blue with
main lettering in black with white end lettering. Built in February
1957, this reefer runs on Bettendorf trucks. The American
Refrigerator Transit Company (ART) was a St. Louis, Missouri-based
private refrigerator car line established in 1881 by the Missouri
Pacific and Wabash railroads. It is now a subsidiary of the Union
Pacific Railroad.

Atlantic Coast Line®. Road Number #77409
This 50’ flat car with fishbelly sides and tarp covered
load is painted black with white lettering. Its was built in 1943 by
Pullman-Standard and serviced in June 1973. It runs on Bettendorf
trucks. Built during the war, this steel underframe car with wood
floor proved to be a solid design. After transporting military
machinery and equipment for the war effort, they were assigned to
various services and ran the rails into the 1980s, many in
maintenance-of-way.

This 56’ general service tank car is painted black with
a gray bands. It bears large white logos and lettering and runs on
Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. Tank car indication bands circa 1970
indicated the cargo the tank was carrying. The colours were as
follows: diesel fuel, grey; gasoline, red; car journal oil, yellow;
water, green; diesel lube oil, yellow trimmed with grey; reclaimed
lube oil, yellow trimmed with green and solvents, red trimmed in
yellow. The grey band on this car indicates it was used in diesel
fuel hauling service.

Wabash. Road Number #11615
This 50’ gondola with fishbelly sides, drop ends and a
crushed metal load is painted box car red with white logo and
lettering. It was built in August 1944, serviced in September
1964, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. The Wabash served the heart
of America (nine states and the Province of Ontario). Major
centers included Omaha, Des Moines, Kansas City, St. Louis,
Chicago, Decatur, Fort Wayne, Toledo, Detroit and Buffalo. In
order to shorten the journey between Detroit and Buffalo the
Wabash cut across southern Ontario for some 250 miles.

Western Pacific®/Pacific Fruit Express®. Road Number
#52220
this 40’ double-sheathed wood reefer is painted reefer
orange with brown roof and ends and hardware. The car bears
black-and-white heralds and black lettering. It was built in May
1924 by American Car & Foundry, serviced in April 1939 in Los
Angeles, and runs on Bettendorf trucks. These were order by WP and
delivered as PFE 52001-52775 wearing PFE paint and WP’s Feather
River heralds. The cars were reconditioned in April of 1939. By the
mid-1950s the cars were ready for rebuilding again.

This 39’ single dome tank car is painted red with white lettering.
It was built in May 1960, pressure tested in December 1978, and runs
on Bettendorf trucks. This tanker works in Maintenance-of-Way
service, hauling diesel fuel. The sides and ends are stenciled in
white with safety warnings ‘Close Tank Valve Before Moving Car’,
‘Diesel Fuel Only’ and ‘Inflammable.’

Missouri Kansas Texas. Road Number #5532
These 40' standard box cars with single doors, tall ladders
and no roofwalks are painted red with white billboard logos and
lettering. They were built in November and December 1954
(respectively), serviced in July 1971 and run on Roller Bearing
trucks. MKT owned an ammunitions plant located on-line in
McAlester, OK; the rebuilt cars were assigned to this plant,
connecting with US Naval and Army storage facilities in Northern
California. The extra large billboard “MKT” paint scheme was
intended to alert all railroads of their dangerous load from great
distances.

three-bay ACF covered hopper with elongated hatches is painted
yellow with blue logo, black lettering and white reflectors. It
was built in April 1996 by Trinity Industries of Saginaw, TX, and
runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. DM&E Railroad began
operations in 1986. Today it is one of the largest regional (Class
II) railroads in the United States, with 1,103 miles of track
located principally in South Dakota and Minnesota. The DM&E's
mainline extends from the Mississippi River at Winona, Minnesota,
across southern Minnesota and central South Dakota to Rapid City.

This 40' drop-bottom gondola is painted black with white
logo and lettering. It was built in January 1948 by Pressed Steel
Car, serviced in January 1964 at the Burnham Shops in Denver, CO,
and runs on Roller Bearing trucks. The D&RGW dropbottom gondolas
serviced through the 1970s wore the 1939 flying "Rio Grande" paint
scheme. Due to their capacity, the 50-ton cars were retired in the
mid-1970s.

This ACF three-dome tank car is painted green with white
logo and lettering. It was built in January 1916 by American Car &
Foundry in Milton, PA, and serviced in January 1972. It runs on
Bettendorf trucks. Originally built for Ozark Oil Line, this
tanker has run the rails for many years. In service to the Penn
Central, this class TM8B non-revenue car carried clean and dirty
lube oil between Altoona and Hollidaysburg, PA.

CSX Transportation®. Road Number #292336
This three-bay Ortner rapid discharge hopper is painted
black with yellow logo and lettering. It was built in August 1966
by Ortner Freight Car Company in Cincinnati, OH. It runs on
Barber® Roller Bearing trucks. The Ortner Freight Car Company of
Cincinnati, Ohio (now Trinity Industries) built two-bay, three-bay
and four-bay versions of the Rapid Discharge hopper. The 'Rapid
Discharge' design self-clears through the rails within 30 seconds
and is perfect for carrying heavy aggregate. Most of the
three-bays were owned by, and in captive service of, construction
& utility companies. The fleets were used for the transport of
heavy material like stone aggregate, iron ore or limestone.

This 40' standard box car with plug and sliding doors is
painted box car red with white lettering and logo. It was built in
October 1962 by National Steel Car, Canada, and serviced in May
1967. It runs on Bettendorf trucks. The combination of a 6' plug
door and 8' sliding door provides a more versatile car for freight
than a single door. The staggered 14'-wide door openings
facilitate the shipment of lumber and other bulky and palletized
products. The extra width allows for the mechanized loading and
unloading of these commodities. When a single-door car is
required, the 6' plug door is closed and locked.

This heavyweight depressed center flat car is painted brown
with yellow lettering. It was built in April 1953 and serviced in
April 1972 and runs on Commonwealth trucks. This particular flat

at the time it was serviced. UP 50000 was gone from the roster by
October 1996.

suitable for general service. By the mid-1970s the cars were
re-equipped and re-numbered.

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, Road Number CB&Q 19864.This
40’ Hy-Cube box car with single door is painted Chinese Red with
white logo and lettering. It was built in November 1967 by Pullman
Standard in Bessemer, AL, and runs on Barber® Roller Bearing trucks.
Mini Hy-Cubes were specifically designed for use in large appliance
service, assigned to specific appliance corporations such as
Whirlpool, Admiral and Philco. This particular car was fitted with
twin Equipco load dividers. The mini Hy-Cube phase was short-lived,
quickly overshadowed by longer and bigger cars.

Disconnect Log Car, New Log Load!!
Produced at the dawn of the 20th Century, these Disconnects were the
backbone of a number of standard and narrow gauge railroads
throughout the Western United States. Our model represents an all
steel version equipped with Hercules Logging Bunks that swivel as
the prototype does. The resin log load is secured with scale brass
tie down chains. The model also features Magne-Matic® Couplers on
both ends of each car as was prototypical.

twin bay hopper with rib sides is painted black with white logos and
lettering. It was built in November 1918, serviced in 1948, and runs
on Bettendorf trucks. This hopper began life as (Buffalo Rochester &
Pittsburgh Railway) BR&P 55134, later becoming B&O 726134 after B&O
took over operations from BR&P sometime in January 1932.

lettering; it comes with a coal load. It was built in October 1962

AAR designation “HT” designates this as an open top, self-clearing
car with fixed sides and ends, consisting of three or more divided
hoppers. The hopper doors are hinged crosswise and dump between the
rails.

990 was originally a DT&I car built in 1919 and most recently
serviced and repainted at the DT&I Jackson, OH shops in 1969. It was
likely used to transport industrial salt.

serif lettering was applied to new freight cars until 1956, and
rebuilt cars through the 1970s; in 1956 the slant serif lettering
was used on new cars.

by Casco for transporting corn syrup. Casco Inc. is one of Canada’s
principal producers and suppliers of high-quality food ingredients
and industrial products.

is one of four cars converted into express box cars by KCS in 1948.

the state of Indiana. The Monon was merged into the Louisville and
Nashville Railroad in 1971, and much of the former Monon right of
way is operated today by CSX Transportation.

Bettendorf trucks. Shippers' Car Line is a division of ACF
Industries and operates cars under the SHPX reporting marks. Many
cars were leased out to private companies. The diamond symbol on the
dome denotes the manway bolted cover (dome closure) has a built-in
safety feature so that internal commodity vapour pressure can't
cause the cover to spring up when releasing the bolts. Newer tank
cars we required to have this feature, eliminating the need for the
symbol.

These 40' drop bottom gondolas with side extensions are painted
box car red with large white 'SP&S' letters and white stenciling.
They carry wood chip loads and run on Bettendorf trucks. The Pressed
Steel Car Company originally built this group of gondolas in 1948
for the D&RGW. The 1950s saw the rapid development of the paper
industry in the Pacific Northwest. As a result, the SP&S began
purchasing the second-hand drop bottom gondolas and adding wood side
extensions to increase the capacity. They were acquired and
converted between August 1964 and 1965, and numbered into the
22400-22474 series.

This three-dome tank car is
painted black with white lettering and runs on Bettendorf trucks. It
was built by American Car & Foundry in May 1930 for Shippers Car
Line—one of a four-car order in Lot #1137. Shippers leased to the
Mexican Petroleum Corporation. The three-dome tank cars were
designed to carry small quantities of multiple products, such as
several grades of motor oil, gasoline or chemicals to be shipped in
one car. American Car & Foundry began production of three-dome tank
cars in 1930 and continued through 1946.

lettering on the sides and ends. This Class HT hopper was seen
working Through the mid-eighties.

Canadian Pacific Road Number CP 230103.
This box car red 40’ outside braced box car with single door
proudly displays the ‘Canadian Pacific’ name in white gothic
lettering and runs on black arch bar trucks. When built in March of
1921, this box car had special hopper doors fabricated into the
floor for grain service. The hoppers could be covered on the inside
of the car to allow service as an ordinary box car. The hopper doors
were removed during the 1930s. Canadian Car & Foundry, National
Steel Car, Eastern Car Company and Canadian Pacific’s own shops
built 9,000 of these cars between 1920 and 1921.

USS Constitution Navy Series #12 Road Number IX-21.
USS Constitution, known as “Old Ironsides,” is a wooden-hulled,
three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. Named after
the United States Constitution, she is the oldest commissioned ship
afloat in the world. The Constitution was one of the six original
frigates authorized for construction by the Naval Act of 1794 and
was launched in 1797. Joshua Humphreys designed them to be the
Navy’s capital ships and so Constitution and her sisters were larger
and more heavily armed than the standard frigates of the period.

This three dome tank car is painted
aluminium on the upper part of the tank and black on the lower.
Lettered in black with Bettendorf trucks, this tanker was built in
January 1932 by American Car & Foundry in Milton, PA. The vast
majority of tankers through the steam era were single-compartment
cars for transporting 6,000 to 10,000 gallons of one commodity.
The three-dome tank cars were designed to carry smaller quantities
of multiple products, such as several grades of motor oil, gasoline
or chemicals to be shipped in one car.

railroad was formed by the merger of the Illinois Central Railroad
Company and the Gulf, Mobile, and Ohio Railroad Company in 1972.
After merging, the railroad operated in 13 states. Today, the IC
ships freight and operates passenger trains for Amtrak. It was a
subsidiary of IC Industries, Inc. (later Whitman Corp.), a holding
company formed in 1962. The railroad was privatized in 1989 and
merged with Canadian National Railway Company (CN) in 1999.

with white herald and lettering. It was built by Bethlehem Steel in
April 1967 and runs on Bettendorf trucks. Hopper 9471 was serviced
and repainted oxide red with D&H billboard scheme at Oneonta, NY, in
March 1971. Hoppers like these carried a variety of loads including
coal, iron ore and ballast.

This 50’ steel side, 15-panel fixed end gondola is painted beige
with white lettering and carries a sand load. It was built in May
1968, serviced in 2001 and runs on roller bearing trucks. This
gondola was originally part of a 50-car series in general service to
FEC. Many in this series were converted for specialized uses such as
corn, aggregate and cement, hay or cross ties. Five of these cars
were entered into MOW service and renumbered 3841, 3842, 3855, 3856
and 3865.

first delivered for one of the most successful freight car designs,
the PS-1 box car. Over 76,000 PS-1s were built by Pullman-Standard

These 50’ flat cars with straight sides, side mount brake wheels
and steel plate loads are painted box car red with white lettering
and run on archbar trucks. The American Car & Foundry built these
flat cars in December of 1929. The
ampersand in the road number hints at the cars’ age; the railroad
excluded that character from its road numbers in 1938. Santa Fe
began life as a line following the Santa Fe Trail, assisting
westward-bound immigrants.

in perfect condition, the scale inspector’s arrival was often
preceded by the appearance of the small scale test car. The scale
test cars were always to be hauled just in front of the
caboose. Immediately upon arrival at the terminal, they were set
aside and subjected to a minimum of switching. Under no
circumstances were they to be used in switching other cars in the
train.

was originally built in June
1912, but was rebuilt into the panel-side hopper in December 1948

trucks. Principally used for rebuilding, the raised panel sides
featured on this model was originally developed out of a need to
provide parts to repair heavily used and rusted hoppers and increase
capacity at the same time.

States Navy, the lead ship of her class, was the first to be
commissioned after the end of World War II. Active in the Vietnam
War and in Operation Desert Storm, as of 2004
she is a museum ship in San Diego, California. She is the only
remaining aircraft carrier of the World War II era that
is not an Essex-class ship. Her revolutionary hull design was based
on what would have been the Montana class
battleships and gave her superior manoeuvrability over all previous
carriers.

multiple products such as motor oil, gasoline or chemicals. ACF

beets. Sometime between 1928 and 1930 they were upgraded with new
steel doors and ends. Although these general service
cars worked hard for decades, many survived well into the 1970s.

cars on Lot #16001. This car is a 4750-cuft, three Compartment aluminum covered hopper with 100-ton Barber® roller
bearing trucks. Corrosion resistance and the lightweight
of aluminum made it especially suited to the construction of large
covered hoppers. The 4750-cuft aluminum covered hopper
car offers a payload of 105 tons, nearly 7 profit-tons more than a
steel car of comparable size.

accommodations for their shippers. They were re-numbered into the
1100-1295 series.

painted black with a yellow logo and lettering. Built in 1972, it
runs on
black roller bearing trucks. The Seaboard Air Line merged with the
Atlantic Coast Line on July 1, 1967, to form The
Seaboard Coast Line. About 1974, SCL began advertising itself as
“The Family Lines.” The title was a marketing
device, not a corporate name. The names in this family: SCL,
Louisville & Nashville, Clinchfield, Georgia Railroad,
and the West Point Route. The SCL continued to operate trains of its
predecessors. On November 1, 1980, SCL and
Chessie System were merged into the CSX Corporation. On December 29,
1982, Louisville & Nashville was merged
into SCL to form the Seaboard System Railroad.

USS Astoria Navy Series #10
Road Number CA-34USS Astoria was one of three heavy
cruisers guarding the northern approach to Guadalcanal and Tulagi,
and was the
only one afloat after a blistering night action against a Japanese
cruiser force. However, she was gravely damaged
in this Battle of Savo Island. Though her crew struggled all through
the morning of 9 August to save their ship, USS
Astoria succumbed to her wounds shortly after noon, sinking into the
depths of a body of water that would soon be
called “Iron Bottom Sound,” in recognition of all the ships that
were lost there.

Napierville Junction Railway was the corporate arm of the Delaware &
Hudson Railway in Canada. It operated some 28 miles of line between
the U.S. border at Rouses Point, N.Y. and a junction with the CP and
CN at St. Constant, Quebec, 20 miles southwest of Montreal. Canadian
Pacific absorbed the NJ reporting mark into their listings by 1992
when it purchased D&H.

with white lettering on the ends. It was built by FMC in Portland,
OR, in January 1977 and runs on roller bearing trucks. The Cadiz
Railroad was built around the turn of the 20th century for the
purpose of transporting tobacco to Gracey, KY. According to legend,
when the railroad was organized in 1901, a company needed to have at
least 10 miles of track. So, founder William Cleland built about two
extra miles of curves into the line to ensure Cadiz would have its
own rail line.

with graphics for 18 Canadian newspapers. Lettering is in both black
and white. Trucks are Bettendorf. This car was built in 1966 by
National Steel Car and serviced in September 1970 when it received
its specialized graphics. This car, one of four uniquely decorated,
operated as such for a short while to raise awareness of CN's
freight transportation role for each item displayed on the car side.
For this car it was its role in the transportation of newsprint.

Saver Service." The first group was a 600 car fleet (series
470000-470599) built by ACF and classed M-66. This car represents
the second group B&O of 400 cars built by Pullman Standard. The Time
Saver Service is how B&O promoted their high speed scheduled LCL
(less than car load) freight service.
